The amazingly thorough bibliographical dictionary of the scholars of Hind (India), compiled by the erudite historian and linguist, Shaykh ‘Abd al-Hayy al-Husayni al-Laknawi, the father of Shaykh Abu ‘l-Hasan ‘Ali al-Nadwi, is now available online.
The book has been published by Dar Ibn Hazm under the title: al-I’lam bi man fi Tarikh al-Hind min al-A’lam and was published in eight parts in three large volumes.
Other editions exist out there which have been published with more volumes. An appendixed completion (takmilah) of the book was added by the author’s son, Shaykh Abu ‘l-Hasan ‘Ali al-Nadwi.

May Allah Taala reward Mawlana Hakim And al-Hayy. As with all biographical works the stance of the author comes through in some of his biographies. However to expect a biographical work to be free of any kind of influence from the authors bias is unrealistic (refer to the criticisms made of Imam al-Dhahabi’s ‘Siyar’ which does not lessen its value).
Perhaps someone can check if Mawlana Abd al-Rashid al-Numani did indeed mention something along these lines with Hakim Abd al-Hayys rather positive writeup of the Ahl al-Hadith scholars.
Some major figures are missing in this work. Most notably Pir Mehr Ali Shah of Golra in the Punjab. He was a student of Mawlana Ahmad Ali Saharanpuri and Mawlana Lutfullah Alighari, aswell as having received khilafat from Haji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki. I have tried looking through the work but could not find a biography for the Shaykh which is a little surprising as ulema less well known and who had a lesser impact than he did are mentioned.
Someone mentioned three students (it is said they were actually Khulafah) of Haji Imdadullah Sahib. I checked them up in the Nuzhat and indeed they are all mentioned. Those who read their biographies can perhaps draw their own conclusions about the range of khulafah Haji Imdadullah had. The biographies are:

Perhaps Pir Mehr Ali Shah Sahib (may Allah have mercy on him) was known by another name or his real name is the one under which he is mentioned. Is that possible?
I am aware of a number of books which mention all the khulafah of Haji Imdadullah (may Allah have mercy on him). Indeed, his students were of a wide variety and represent a vast spectrum of orthodoxy and orthopraxy.
